Operating instructions

1.  Set the Sort by, Sequence, and Subfolder depth controls.

2.  Click the toolbar Folder icon and select a folder to start the listing process. Alternatively, select a folder from the menu bar or use Finder to drag and drop a folder onto attaché's main window.

3.  A progress bar activates during the listing process and the Stop button is enabled.

4.  When the listing procedure ends, the standard macOS Print dialog is displayed and the listing can be saved as a PDF file or printed. If the Print dialog is cancelled, the CSV toolbar icon remains available for use.

Toolbar icons

Folder: select a folder and start the listing procedure.

Export: save the listing as a comma-separated values file.

Controls

Sort by: the field used to sort folders and folder contents.

If this setting is other than Name, a secondary name sort order applies. For example, if Sort by is set to Kind then a folder containing multiple files of the same kind is sorted by Kind and each kind category is sorted by name.

Sequence: specifies ascending or descending as the sort order.

Subfolder depth: sets the subfolder processing depth level.

A setting of 0 denotes that only the selected folder's contents will be listed. If the selected folder contains other folders, a setting of 1 would list the contents of these subfolders as well. A setting of 2 would include subfolders within subfolders, etc.

Stop: cancel the currently running listing procedure.

Settings (Preferences)

Include pre-installed macOS applications:

Specifies whether the contents of the /System/Applications folder are included in a listing of the /Applications folder.

In newer versions of macOS, Apple's pre-installed macOS applications are in the /System/Applications folder and user installed applications are in the /Applications folder. Finder displays the combined contents of both these folders when viewing the /Applications folder.

Set this checkbox to obtain a listing that matches the Finder display.

Export CSV with field names:

Set this checkbox to include field names as the first record in the CSV file.
